Black tea is interesting. If you steep it a long time it gets a bitter blueness to the flavour, a kind of metallic taste that lingers on your tongue.
Wait…it tastes blue? Yeah, I just described a flavour with a colour. Deal with it.
Like with coffee, most people add milk or cream to their tea to make it richer and sweeter, to mask that bitterness. It’s a whole different experience than tea with milk, it evokes different emotions and images. The ones from tea with milk are easier to experience, but black tea is more honest. It has some of the same comfortable images but mixed in are dark clouds and sharp edges. Coffee is too intense for me to leave black, but with tea I sometimes enjoy that blueness.
